Gutleut which were in the Middle Ages lepers , lepers, named because it was believed that their plight are the benefactors ways to earn by good works the sky. Because of the high risk of infection, they were forcibly "suspended". They only had the choice of either going away or living in a manor house ( manor house, Kottenhaus, infirmary, leprosy ) outside the village.

In Frankfurt am Main there is the Gutleuthof , Gutleutviertel , Gutleutkirche and Gutleutstrasse , in Speyer the Gutleutwiesen , in Bad Bergzabern the street Gutleuthohl . A building area with several houses is planned, named Gutleutmatten, after the pastures around the Freiburg Gutleuthaus .
