history

Upninkai was mentioned in a document in 1442 in the will of Kristinas Astikas. In the first half of the 18th century the Upninkai estate belonged to the Lithuanian and Polish noble families (such as Astikas , later Radvila , then Podbereski, Petrauskas , Rcewski , Šemeta , Kasowski) and other owners.

There was a chapel in the manor. Astikas Radvilaitis, the owner of the mansion at the time, built the first church on site around the 15th century. In 1614 it was mentioned in the inventory of Upninkai Manor that there had been an Evangelical Reformed Church for a long time. Upninkai Manor was owned by Lutheran Bulmering. In 1864 he asked the tsarist authorities to close the church and return the building to the estate of the manor, but the request was denied.
