Upninkai is a place in the district community of Jonava ( Lithuania ), on the left bank of the Šventoji . It forms the center of the Upninkai District . There is the Upninkai Church (built 1845). It is located north of the village in the Šventoji valley. Houses built in the Soviet-Lithuanian era dominate the settlement. There are several apartment buildings, a secondary school , a library and a post office (LT-55096).
history
Upninkai was mentioned in a document in 1442 in the will of Kristinas Astikas . The other Upninkai owner, his son Radvila Astikas until 1477 , built the first church here in Upninkai Manor . In 1650 this belonged to the Evangelical Reformed Church. In the 17th century there was a court as well as a few pubs and markets. The Catholic Church was built in 1717 and moved to another location in 1750.
In Soviet Lithuania , the village was the center of Upninkai County . Now it is the center of an administrative district.
