Saathain Manor Church

The listed manor church is located on the site of a former manor in Saathain , a district of the southern Brandenburg municipality of Röderland .

history

The half-timbered church from 1629 was built on the site of a castle chapel mentioned in a document in 1575. The former manor church was given its present shape through renovation work that took place shortly after the Wars of Liberation in 1816.

Memorial stone in front of the church for Pastor Wolfgang Bastian

Further repair work was carried out from July 13 to October 4, 1936 under Pastor Wolfgang Bastian and the church was saved from further deterioration. There is a memorial stone in front of the church for this pastor and local history researcher who died in Torgau during interrogation by the Gestapo in 1942 .

After the church became public property in 1968 , it was placed under monument protection. At the end of the 1980s, extensive restoration work was finally started to preserve the historical building. In 1987 the church tower was first solidly bricked up for stabilization and provided with five ring anchors. From 1988 to 1991 the restoration of the interior painting from the 17th century followed.

After extensive renovation measures, it has been open to the public again since 1990. With the numerous concerts and exhibitions taking place here, it is one of the cultural centers of the community and of the Elbe-Elster district . Since May 2006 it has also been possible to get a civil marriage in the historic half-timbered church. In September 2011, the restoration of the bell tower was completed, as part of which the ailing belfry was replaced. As early as July 2010, the bells could be restored by replacing the two chilled cast iron bells from 1958 with two new bronze bells from the Lauchhammer bell foundry . Repair work was carried out on the small bronze bell, which is around 500 years old.
