Gwyn Ashton (* 1961 in Wales ) is an Australian rock musician and singer.

Life

Born in Wales in 1961, Gwyn Ashton moved to Australia with his parents as a child and grew up in Adelaide . He dedicated himself to the Australian blues scene at an early age and made his first appearances with the Stevie Wright Band and his own trios in Sydney in the 80s . A little later he played in the opening act of the Irish guitar legend Rory Gallagher , whose style had a lasting influence on him.

After a few years in Melbourne, he finally went to England and toured with greats such as Mick Fleetwood , BB King , AC / DC , Johnny Winter , Dr. Feelgood , Whitesnake or Status Quo all over Europe and the USA.

In 2001, Gwyn Ashton played the role of his musical role model in the Gallagher memorial band Band of Friends with Rory's former accompanists. So it came to the collaboration with Gerry McAvoy and Brendan O'Neill (Gallagher's rhythm section) on the third Ashton album Fang it! .

Gwyn Ashton was named 3rd Guitarist of the Year by Guitar Parts Magazine in 2001, just behind Jeff Beck and Gary Moore .

In February 2006 his album Prohibition was released , which he produced together with Chris Glen and Ted McKenna (Alex Harvey Band / Ian Gillan / Michael Schenker Group ) and the keyboardist Don Airey from Deep Purple .
