György Dörner

György Dörner (born December 9, 1953 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian actor , cultural politician and has been the theater director of the New Theater in Budapest since February 2012 .

Life

Dörner graduated from the Budapest Theater and Film Academy in 1979 and received an engagement at the Budapest National Theater , and subsequently at the other Budapest theaters and also in the Hungarian provincial theaters. He had his first supporting role in the film in 1973, his first leading role in 1979, and since then he has appeared in a large number of Hungarian films and TV productions.

New Theater Budapest

In 2011 he was appointed director of the Budapest New Theater (Új Színház) from February 1, 2012 by the Budapest Mayor István Tarlós together with István Csurka , who was chairman of the right-wing extremist party MIÉP (Party for Hungarian Law and Life) caused concern to Hungarian theater people and was also asked by the international press. The late Csurka wanted to start with Dörner and the writer Zsolt Pozsgai (* 1960) in the theater with the "building of a community of Hungarian-national renewal and togetherness". Dörner will make the stage "more political" and is considering renaming the theater to "Hinterland Theater" (Hátország Színház) in order to give a stage to "Hungarians" threatened by "social liberalism". In August 2016 Dörner was confirmed in his office for another five years by the city council.
