Isten hátrafelé megy is a Hungarian film by Miklós Jancsó from 1990. It is Jancsó's first film after the end of communist rule in Hungary and the withdrawal of the Soviet army from the country. It contains typical Jancsó motifs such as crowds, naked women and songs, filmed in long shots.

action

The filmmaker Marci and one of his friends set off on another assignment after filming in the Buda Castle . This time the location is a castle in the middle of a spacious park, a police school abandoned by the Russians. There they meet Nathalie, a naked French woman. They watch on screens how Mikhail Gorbachev is overthrown and executed in Moscow . Meanwhile, two rival groups, Hungarian communists and nationalists, are fighting for the castle. The Russians come back with tanks and kill all Hungarians. It turns out that the whole thing was a film made by Miklós Jancsó, and the director invites everyone involved to a party. Jancsó and the screenwriter Gyula Hernádi are shot while walking.

criticism

In the International Film Guide 1992 it was said that Miklós Jancsó was making good progress in restoring his damaged reputation after his films in the 1980s. This is less obscure than the previous ones.
