József Madaras, 1973

József Madaras (born August 16, 1937 in Rigmani , Mureș County , Romania ; † April 24, 2007 in Máriahalom , Hungary ) was a Hungarian theater and film actor, voice actor and director.

Life

He worked as a gardener and cutter and then studied until 1958 at the Budapest Theater and Film School. He then played at various theaters in the capital and belonged to the Thalia Theater from 1961 to 1966 . Madaras worked as a voice actor at the Pannonia studios and from 1978 was a member of the ensemble of the state film production company Mafilm .

He made his film debut in 1959 in Miklós Jancsós A mi földünk . Under this director he played numerous leading roles, such as a commander in the world war film Stars on the Hats (1966), the Hungarian soldier Károly in Silence and Scream (1968), the father Kéller in Shimmering Wind (1969) and the Bálint Hegedűs in Red Psalm (1971), who won the 1972 Cannes Film Festival for Best Director. His portrayal of the school principal in János Rózsa's Spider Run (1976) was also outstanding .

In 1996 József Madaras was awarded the Kossuth Prize .
