György Fejti

Life

Fejti, who came from a working-class family, began to study mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Budapest BME (Budapesti Műszaki Egyetem) after attending school , from which he graduated in 1969 with a diploma. During his studies, he became a member of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) in 1968 and began working as a teaching assistant in 1971. In 1972 he became an employee of the Central Committee (ZK) of the Communist Youth League KISZ (Magyar Kommunista Ifjúsági Szövetség) , where he was head of the organization department between 1974 and 1976 before he became secretary of the KISZ Central Committee between 1976 and 1979. During this time he completed his studies at the party college of the MSZMP in 1977 and acted between May 1, 1979 and December 3, 1980 as deputy head of the department of party and mass organizations of the MSZMP Central Committee. On December 2, 1980, at a central committee plenum, he also became a member of the central committee of the MSZMP.

On December 3, 1980 Fejti succeeded László Maróthy as first secretary of the KISZ Central Committee and held this position until he was replaced by Csaba Hámori on December 7, 1984. On December 7, 1984, he became the First Secretary of the MSZMP Party Committee in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County . After finishing this activity he moved to the central party administration and on June 27, 1987 became Central Committee Secretary for Administrative Affairs. He then became a member of the Central Committee of the Central Committee for International Law and Administration in December 1988, where he was responsible for legislative procedures in the government of Prime Minister Miklós Németh .
