György Pálfi

György Pálfi (2009)

György Pálfi (born April 11, 1974 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian film director .

His film career began at the age of 14 when he took a small acting role in István Dárdays and Györgyi Szalais A Documentator (1988). Pálfi gave up acting to devote himself to directing. In 1997 his satirical short film A Hal was released .

After the director graduated from the Academy for Drama and Film in Budapest in 2000 , he began shooting his first feature film, Hukkle - The Village . This film, which does not require any dialogue at all and which works a lot with noises, shows life in a rural village in Hungary, has been shown at over 100 film festivals and in numerous art house cinemas around the world since 2002. Pálfi has won several awards, including the prize for “best young director” at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-San Sebastián and the Fassbinder Prize at the European Film Prize .

In 2003 he was involved in a segment in the Hungarian episode film Jött egy busz… . This was followed in 2006 by his second feature film, the three-generation grotesque comedy Taxidermia . Among other things, this film won the main prize at the Hungarian Film Week and, like Hukkle - Das Dorf 2003, was sent in as a Hungarian candidate for a nomination for “ best foreign language film ” at the 2008 Academy Awards .
