content

The film Taxidermia describes three generations of a family in Hungary in a darkly bizarre way . The first part is about the soldier Vendel Morosgoványi, who was stationed at an outpost during the Second World War and suffered from the harassment of his lieutenant. He passes the time with different obsessions and sometimes unusual types of masturbation . For example, he observes the lieutenant's two daughters bathing and then drinks the water they have used; in the nights Vendel dreams of affection and warmth, which he fills with a burning candle. Finally he has the chance to sleep with the lieutenant's weighty wife. The next morning Vendel is shot by the lieutenant and finally the birth of the child can be seen that was conceived during the act.

The child Kálmán is raised by the lieutenant. As a grown man, Kálmán competes as a partially successful competitive eater, which in the world of film is celebrated like a state act. He falls in love with Gizzela, who is also a heavyweight fast eater. After the marriage, Lajos is born, who is very thin and has a different career than his parents, namely as a taxidermist . He reluctantly but caringly takes care of his father, who is now immobile and fatter than ever and who compensates for his ambition as a weather eater with his excessive eating habits and the fattening of his three cats with butter. One day after an argument and after not locking the cat enclosure, Lajos finds his father Kálmán dead in the apartment. He decides to stuff it and then stuffs himself with the help of an apparatus. In the end it will be exhibited next to his father in the Museumsquartier in Vienna.

criticism

H. Ladstätter at Austrian filmtipps says: In Taxidermia, the poetic realism of literary films like Die Blechtrommel meets the opulent imagery of Peter Greenaway, spiced with extremely macabre humor somewhere between Emir Kusturica and the Monty Pythons.
