Gylfi Gylfason (born September 22, 1977 in Reykjavík ) is a former Icelandic handball player . The trained hairdresser is 1.79 m tall, married and has a son.

Gylfi, who last played for Haukar Hafnarfjörður and ran for the Icelandic national team, was mostly used as the right winger.

Gylfi started playing handball at Grótta KR. There he later made his debut in the Icelandic first division. In 1999 he went to Haukar Hafnarfjörður and in 2000 moved abroad, to HSG Düsseldorf in the German 2nd handball league . He stayed there for two years before he went to the Wilhelmshaven HV , which had just been promoted to the first handball league . There he always managed to stay in the league for five years; only in 2008 did his club have to return to the second division. Gylfi was then signed by GWD Minden, for whom he played until the summer of 2011. He then returned to Haukar Hafnarfjörður. He ended his career after the 2012/13 season.

Gylfi made 27 international appearances for the Icelandic national team. For his country he took part in the 2004 European Handball Championship in Slovenia and in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
