Gymnocalycium nigriareolatum is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Gymnocalycium nigriareolatum grows singly or in sprouts with dull, light to dark gray-green, broadly spherical shoots that reach heights of 4 to 6 centimeters with a diameter of 5 to 8 centimeters (rarely up to 12 centimeters). The usually ten (rarely 8 to 16) sharp-edged ribs are notched transversely. Central spines are absent. The approximately seven slightly protruding radial spines, slightly bent towards the shoot, are light gray-brown and have darker points. They are 1 to 3 inches long. The three lowest of them are the longest.

The funnel-shaped white flowers have a slightly pink throat or are carmine red. They are 4 to 4.6 inches long and can reach a diameter of up to 4 inches. The spherical fruits measure 1 to 1.2 centimeters in diameter.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Gymnocalycium nigriareolatum is common in the Argentine province of Catamarca in the Sierra de Graciana at altitudes of 500 to 1000 meters.

It was first described in 1934 by Curt Backeberg .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
