Gymnocalycium valnicekianum is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet honors the Czech cactus lover Jan Valniček (1899–1967).
description
Gymnocalycium valnicekianum grows individually with gray-green, dull, flattened, spherical shoots that reach heights of up to 18 centimeters with a diameter of 18 centimeters. The eight to 13 ribs are divided into sharp, blunt to protruding cusps. The single central spine is shaped like the three to nine radial spines. The gray, inwardly curved to hooky curved and somewhat twisted radial spines are 2.5 to 3 centimeters long.
The white to pink colored flowers have a slightly pink throat. They reach a length of 3.5 to 4.5 centimeters and the same diameter.
Distribution and systematics
Gymnocalycium valnicekianum is common in the Argentine province of Córdoba .
It was first described in 1934 by Bedrich Jajó . The following subspecies are distinguished:

- Gymnocalycium valnicekianum subsp. prochazkianum (Šorma) H.Till & Amerh.
