Gyula Haraszti

Gyula Haraszti , also Jules Haraszti , (born August 25, 1858 in Cluj-Napoca , † July 15, 1921 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian hungarian scientist , Romance scholar and French scholar .

Life

Gyula Haraszti studied Hungarian and French. As a high school teacher, he published first in Hungarian studies , later mainly in French studies. After a stay in France (1889–1890) he became professor of French at the University of Budapest in 1900 (from 1920 also dean). He is considered to be the founder of Hungarian French studies. He was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1903).

Gyula Haraszti was the father of the musicologist Emile Haraszti (1885-1958), who died in France.
