Crochet galloon knit: wales connected with a weft thread

Knitting needles (also called crochet hooks ) are arranged in a straight line and can only be moved together in the horizontal direction. Horizontal to the knitting needles are in a guide bar with rotational and lateral movements of eye needles attached. The perforated needles bring individual warp threads to the knitting needles with each machine revolution. Above the needles there are weft guides on a rod with horizontal and offset movement with the function of placing the weft threads drawn off the creel at right angles to the warp threads under the needles.

The knitted fabric is created in such a way that a weft thread is braided into closed fringes made from warp threads in the following steps:

  1. The weft layers place the weft threads on the warp, which is located under the knitting needles.
  2. The warp thread guide bar rises and hooks the warp threads into the needle heads.
  3. The needles move backwards, old stitches are cast off and around the

Weft threads form new fringes at the same time.

The fringes form separate sticks that are connected to one another by the weft threads or (with the appropriate machine equipment). The variable movement (offsets) of the weft guides can also create patterns in the knitted fabric.

Equipment of the crochet galloon machines

Modern machines are usually specialized for certain types of goods. They can be equipped with up to 16 guide rails, the number of weft thread guides depends on the intended fabric width. The movement of the active elements is controlled either mechanically or electronically.

The needle fineness is between 4 and 10 / cm, with machine widths of 40 to 310 cm, for example, up to 48 cords can be produced in parallel. Up to 300 rows of stitches are formed per minute.

Using the machine

The most common products are ribbons, borders, cords, trimmings and (small) curtains. It is also known to be used for technical purposes .
