Héctor Campos-Parsi

Héctor Campos-Parsi (born October 1, 1922 in Ponce , Puerto Rico , † January 30, 1998 ) was a Puerto Rican composer.

Life

Campos-Parsi first studied art education in Puerto Rico, then music at the New England Conservatory in Boston with Francis Judd Cooke and at the Berkshire Music Center with Aaron Copland , Irving Fine and Olivier Messiaen, and in Paris with Nadia Boulanger . In 1954 he returned to Puerto Rico, where he taught at the Escuela Libre de Música and later at the Conservatorio de Música in San Juan, which he founded.

Official functions

He was a representative of Puerto Rico on the International Music Council and the International Association for Music and a member of the musical advisory board of the National Cultural Institute of Puerto Rico.

Works

He composed three ballets, a piece for percussion, tape and orchestra, a piano concerto , chamber music works, piano pieces , cantatas , choirs and songs .
