Hotel de Rohan (Paris)

The baroque city palace Hôtel de Rohan in Paris was built from 1705 by the architect Pierre Alexis Delamair for the Rohan family. Today it houses part of the French Archives nationales together with the Hôtel de Soubise .

The main parts of the Hôtel de Rohan are:

  • a classic monumental facade with colonnades and pilasters
  • the former stables, the gate of which is spanned by a bas-relief , the “chevaux du soleil” by Robert Le Lorrain
  • a monumental staircase
  • an ensemble of wood paneling ("cabinet aux singes") from 1750 with the theme of travel and the exotic.

The Hôtel de Rohan is to be distinguished from the Hôtel de Rohan-Guéméné, Place des Vosges No. 6, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris , where Victor Hugo lived in an apartment from 1832 to 1848.
