The Höglmühle was a water mill in the village of Hühnergeschrei in the Altenfelden community in Upper Austria's Mühlviertel . The mill on the Kleine Mühl , whose existence has been documented since the early 17th century, ceased operations around 1949. Today only around 2/3 of the building complex from the middle of the 19th century remains.

history

The first owners of the Höglmühle are Paul and Eva Perger from 1627. The company was under the lordship of the Pürnstein-Hölling I lordship and, in addition to water rights, also had ½ yoke ground. The mill changed hands often and was owned by the Asanger family from 1730 until the beginning of the 19th century. In 1825 Kaspar Mörtenschlag bought the company, which was passed on to the family until the end of the 19th century. After that, the mill was owned by the Bruckmüller and Schmöller-Peherstorfer families. Flour was ground in the Höglmühle until around 1949, only when the owner Hermann Peherstorfer was called up between 1943 and 1947 the company was idle. The production of Leinöhl had already been given up in 1920. After the business was closed, parts of the building complex were demolished, and in 1976 the weir also disappeared. After the owner family had built a new house outside of Hühnergeschrei between 1978 and 1982, the local company Kneidinger bought the remains of the mill in order to obtain water rights. As a result, the Kneidinger company built an electrical plant.

Buildings

The remains of the building complex that still exist today date from the middle of the 19th century. The two-storey house with a steep hipped roof has granite stone walls, a round-arched niche and a lintel with the year 1863. The longitudinally rectangular wooden building on the left houses the disused single-blade saw, which also dates from the mid-19th century. Originally, the level of the passing street was on the level of the entrance area on the south-east facade. In the course of the road widening, however, the street level was raised. In addition, the house floor adjacent to the mill wing on the street disappeared, so that only three rows of windows remained of the former five-part south-east facade. Where the north-west facade is today, a round arched gate and other parts of the house were connected before the demolition. To the left of the saw, which was in operation until the 1970s, there was also the Ausnahmhäusl (Hühnergeschrei No. 2) with a wagon hut and troad floor, so that the complex extended to today's chapel.
