Aleksandar "Sanja" Ilić ( Serbian Александар Сања Илић; born March 27, 1951 in Belgrade ) is a Serbian composer and musician . In 1998 he founded the band Balkanika , with whom he represented Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon with the song "Nova Deca". From 1971 to 1975 Ilić was the keyboard player for the Yugoslav band San .

life and career

Ilić was born on March 27, 1951 in Belgrade. His father was a composer and his brother Dragan is a musician and member of the band Generacija 5 . Ilić was married to the Serbian actress and model Zlata Petković until her death in 2012. They have a son (* 1984) together. Ilić studied at the University of Belgrade in the Faculty of Architecture.

Ilić began his musical career at the age of 12 when he composed a song for the Serbian singer Dragan Laković. At the age of 16 he composed the song "Baj baj baj", which Bisera Veletanlić sang at the Jugovizija in 1976 , where she came in third. After completing his studies, Ilić continued his musical career in the 1970s by playing in various bands, such as Vragolani and San . Ilić later composed the music for the club anthem of the Red Star Belgrade football club . In 1982 he composed the song "Halo, Halo", with which Aska represented Yugoslavia at the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest . Ilić also composed the song "Princeza", which was to serve as Yugoslavia's contribution to the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest .

In 1998 Ilić founded the band " Balkanika ", with whom he gave the first concert in 2000. Sanja Ilić and Balkanika represented Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon with the song "Nova Deca".
