Under Höherlegung refers to a modification of SUV / SUV , pickups or the like to place higher by the body. Elevations can increase the slope and ramp angle and allow the installation of larger tires, which is the easiest way to increase the ground clearance . Since this shifts the center of gravity upwards at the same time , the maximum permissible angle of inclination is reduced and the road holding of many higher-lying cars deteriorates significantly.

For each vehicle model, a special lift kit is usually required and the principle of the lift kit differs depending on the drive and vehicle design. Simple heightening can be achieved with spacer blocks between axles and leaf springs , between the vehicle frame and body ( body lift ) or spacers for preloading coil springs in conjunction with extended shock absorbers . More complex methods range from modified wishbones and / or trailing arms to individually manufactured multi-link axles .

Elevations can make it necessary to adapt other components such as drive shafts or brake lines . In addition to the steering geometry , the height of the license plates and lighting can also change, for which specific approval regulations often apply.
