The Höltensee is located in the north of the Sternberg lake landscape in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , in the Mustin municipality . It is located southeast of the town of the same name. The body of water, divided into three basins, has a maximum length of about one kilometer and a maximum width of 350 meters. At the northern end of the lake is the drain. The west and north banks are forested. In the north, at the transition to Lake Mustiner, the shore is swampy. The area on the east bank is used for agriculture. Bolzer See is 400 meters south of the lake . But there is no connection, as both lakes are separated by a ridge. The lake is the southernmost part of a chain of lakes that runs through the municipality from north to south.
