The Mustiner See is located in the north of the Sternberg lake landscape in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , directly north of the town of Mustin of the same name . The little articulated, two-part and elongated body of water in the north basin has a maximum length of 800 meters and a maximum width of 180 meters. Both pools are connected by a bridged river. The south basin is about 620 meters long and 280 meters wide in the south and 220 meters in the north. In the southern part there is a pronounced bay near Mustin. At around 103.5 hectares, the south basin is only slightly larger than the 97 hectare north basin. The lake drains partly piped from the north basin to Mildenitz . In the south there is a connection to the Höltensee . The lake is the central part of a chain of lakes that runs through the municipality from north to south.
Not far north of the water is the Ruchower See .
