Hörelibajass

Two Hörelibajassen in front of Einsiedeln Monastery

The Hörelibajass is a figure of the Hermit Carnival . She appears together with Mummerie and Johee on Shrove Tuesday . Together these figures contest the throwing out of bread , in which loaves of bread (so-called Mütschli) are alternately thrown from different stages into the crowd. The "Hörelibajass" is probably of urban origin. He is responsible for the supply of bread when the bread is thrown out and clears the way for the other two figures with pig bladders ("Süübloutere") attached to sticks. The Hörelibajass carries a white fool larva and a hood with three "Höreli". The Hörelibjass is dressed entirely in white.
