Johee throwing bread

The Johee is a figure of the Hermit Carnival . She appears together with the Mummerie and the Hörelibajass on Shrove Tuesday . Together these figures contest the throwing out of bread , in which loaves of bread (so-called Mütschli) are alternately thrown from different stages into the crowd. According to the vernacular, the Johee represents a herdsman who has lost his fortune on trips to the Welschland. He wears black, half-length trousers with white knee socks and a white shirt. He wears a trichel around his stomach . He is holding a pine rice broom in his hand. The face is covered by a valuable wooden mask .
