description

TU Lecture Center, west side

With a significant expansion of the TU Dresden after the fall of the Wall , structural improvements to the university buildings became necessary. The new lecture hall center is "a particularly fine example" of this.

The building was built according to plans by the architects Klein & Sänger in cooperation with Dömges + Partner from the Free State of Saxony as the client and completed in 1998.

The building consists of a south and north wing. The lecture hall center is a "central cube" that comprises a total of four lecture halls. Lecture hall 1 on the ground floor, the auditorium maximum , which has 977 seats, is the largest lecture hall in Saxony. Lecture hall 2, which has been the Alfred Post lecture hall since November 2012 , is located below it and has approx. 550 seats. The two lecture halls 3 and 4 are arranged side by side above the main auditorium. These have about 600 and 450 places. In addition to these four large lecture halls, the HSZ also houses two smaller lecture halls, ten seminar rooms and a drawing room. The glass facade of the building also serves as the main entrance. As a cube with a glass facade, this building is one of the successors of other “simple steel-glass-cube” buildings, such as the plenary hall of the Saxon state parliament or the cafeteria of the army officers' school .

The entrance hall, foyer and stairwell of the lecture hall center are decorated with wall paintings "Fragments of the Technical Revolution" by Michael Fischer-Art .
