Alfred Post (university manager)

Alfred Post (born August 24, 1942 in Wesel ; † October 18, 2005 in Dresden ) was a German university manager. From 1991 until his death he was Chancellor of the Technical University of Dresden .

Life

After completing school and high school at the State Old and Modern Language High School in Wesel , Alfred Post first did an apprenticeship as a banker. After his military service, he was managing director of a wholesale company from 1965 to 1969. From 1969 to 1974 he studied law at the Humboldt University in Berlin , the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . Initially, Post worked as a lawyer. In 1976 he began his university career at the University of Essen as a department head for human resources and organization as well as deputy chancellor.

After German reunification, Post took up the newly created position of Chancellor at the Technical University of Dresden in 1991. In 2001 he turned down the offer to become director of the Saxon state parliament . In 2004, Post became the spokesman for the chancellors of the universities in Saxony , Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt .

At the TU Dresden he initiated the necessary structural renewal and contributed to the TU Dresden becoming a reform university of the donors' association for German science . Post campaigned strongly for the expansion and new construction of the university buildings. In 1991 he re-established the “Society of Friends and Supporters of the TU Dresden”. Alfred Post was a long-time member of the Presidium of the European Institute for Postgraduate Education at TU Dresden e. V. (EIPOS) and was committed to postgraduate university education . He was also active in the “Dresden - City of Science 2006” initiative .

In 2004, Post was awarded a CHEmpion by the Center for University Development (CHE) as the “ Most Innovative Chancellor of the Decade” of German universities . In November 2012, a lecture hall in the lecture hall center of the TU Dresden was named after him.
