The Húnavatn (from Icelandic vatn "water") is a lake in the Norðurland vestra region in northern Iceland . It is located in the municipality of Húnavatn (Icelandic Húnavatnshreppur ), which is named after the lake.

geography

The lake is located east of the Hóp lagoon and southwest of Blönduós on Húnafjörður (which belongs to the Húnaflói Bay ), to which it is connected via the Húnaós. Lake Húnavatn is connected to Lake Flóðið via the Vatnsdalsá river . At the mouth of the Vatnsdalsá is the island of Langhólmi in the Húnavatn. Between the Hóp lagoon and the Húnavatn is the place Þingeyrar with the Hingeyrakirkja . In the north-east of the lake, the Laxá á Ásum river flows into the Húnavatn when it comes from Laxárvatn . A little further west the Torfalækur flows into the lake.

traffic

Road 721 leads to the town of Þingeyrar. The Hringvegur runs east of the lake .
