Hülya Kandemir

Hülya Kandemir (* 1975 in Upper Palatinate ) is a successful German-Turkish songwriter and folk singer and today uses her popularity to promote cultural understanding . She does this, among other things, as the author of an autobiographical work .

Life

From 1997, Kandemir, who grew up in Germany, released albums as a pop singer; Especially in the German-Turkish community she achieved great popularity with her modern folklore music and played with her music group in halls and concert halls.

Kandemir describes her “path from pop star to Allah” in her 2005 book Heavenly Daughter . This work, which has received much attention in Germany, is intended to offer a “fairer” representation of Islam, which is often described in the German media as “fanatical-conservative” ( Frankfurter Rundschau ): In addition to her own story, Kandemir shows the reader, for example, passages from the Koran that she believes speak clearly against forced marriage , which is often discussed as a primarily Muslim problem . On the other hand, according to Kandemir, contrary to many opinions, the Koran in no way forbids divorce from spouses or contraception, which the author also knows about the Koran text.
