In 2007 Hüntel has 322 inhabitants on an area of ​​10.73 km² and belongs to the northern districts of Meppens.

On March 1, 1974, Hüntel was incorporated into the district town of Meppen.

In spring 2009, the Funpark Meppen amusement park (comparable to Wunderland Kalkar ) was opened on the site of the former gas power plant . The owner is the Dutchman Hendrikus van der Most, who has already converted the Kalkar nuclear power plant into the Kalkar Wonderland. A map of the world is painted on the cooling tower of the power plant.
