Hōjō Ujinao ( Japanese 北 条 氏 直 ; * 1562 ; † 1591 ) was a Japanese daimyo during the Azuchi Momoyama period . He was the last head of the Hōjō clan .

Life

Hōjō Ujinao was the son of Hōjō Ujimasa . From their seat in Odawara, his family resisted Oda Nobunaga's unification plans for Japan for several years . After Nobunaga's death in 1582, his deserving general Hashiba Hideoyshi took over his territory and prepared a campaign against the Hōjō. Hōjō Ujinao, who had been head of his family since 1590, could not oppose the new opponent. Odawara was besieged and handed over to Hideyoshi in 1590. Ujinao was spared but banished. He died in exile a year later.

Hōjō Ujinao was married to Tokuhime , the daughter of the later unifier , Tokugawa Ieyasu . The marriage remained childless.
