HNIC Part 2 -

HNIC Part 2 is the third music album by the US rapper Prodigy . It was released in the United States of America on April 22, 2008. The sound carrier was released on the Voxonic label. On November 4, 2008 the album was released under the title HNIC Pt. 2: The Ultimate Collectors Edition as a re-release .

background

In March 2007, Prodigy's album Return of the Mac was released on Koch Records. This should act as a tool for marketing HNIC Part 2 . Koch Records made the rapper an offer for his third album, which Prodigy declined. He finally accepted an offer from Voxonic . Prodigy also joined Voxonic as a partner and works there as an A&R .

Emergence

The recordings for HNIC Part 2 began in 2004. Since Prodigy gives priority to work with his group Mobb Deep , which he forms with hip-hop musician Havoc , the completion of the album was delayed. During this time he worked on new music for Mobb Deep and went on the Anger Management tour. In addition, "legal problems" arose for Prodigy after completion.

In contrast to previous albums, Prodigy placed more emphasis on the beats when creating HNIC Part 2 . According to the rapper, the topics deal with “universal problems”. The main focus during the production was on the atmosphere of the album.

marketing

Voxonic promoted the album using technology that loads a recorded voice and can then translate it into different languages. This means that spoken texts or, in the case of the album, ripped texts can be translated with the same emphasis and with the same voice. HNIC Part 2 is the first hip-hop album that has been translated into over 1,000 languages.

reception

success

criticism

On the website Rap4Fame.de the album was awarded three out of a possible five evaluation points. The editor describes HNIC Part 2 as the "average album", which does not surpass its predecessor Return of the Mac . The productions and especially the beats of Sid Roams are criticized negatively. From the editor's point of view, 3 Stacks is the “worst track on the disc”, whereas the title I want out is described as the “absolute maximum” of the album. Prodigy is also criticized. The texts written by him are classified between “commonplace phrases and irrelevance”. The album documents "how little [Prodigy] still has to tell". In addition to the negative criticism, the beats by Havoc and the contributions of the rapper Un Pacino are positively highlighted.

The German hip-hop magazine Juice gave the album four out of a possible six “crowns” in a review. In the evaluation, HNIC Part 2 is described as “good”, “but not groundbreaking”. The "less successful pieces" of the sound carrier are, from the perspective of Juice , "countable on one hand". In addition, the song A, B, C’s is highlighted positively.
