H. Gunnar Griese (* 1964 in Dresden ) is a Dresden painter, graphic artist and set designer.

HG Griese studied from 1987 to 1995 at the Dresden University of Fine Arts (HfbK). From the beginning he was primarily concerned with classical painting and the art of comics, which he occasionally comes across. He always signed this type of painting with H. G. made by Kätschap . As a set designer, Griese only appeared briefly at the Dresden State Theater in 1987 with Roland May's production Farewell Judas by Ireneusz Iredynski. From the end of 1989 H. G. Griese belonged to the Friedrichstadt artist group “Strand”, peripherally to the underground film group FESA (feige sau) and the band Friends of Italian Opera . H. G. Griese became known in the early 1990s through graphics, comics and above all through the logo of the "Zwingenmann" for the "Friends of Italian Opera". At the same time he acted under the pseudonym Dr. H. G. as their press spokesman and left the media world with a multitude of bizarre interviews and, in addition to his intellectual conceptual work for the band, decisively shaped the image of the FDIO. The film "1989" for FDIO, which he co-directed with Ray van Zeschau , was shown again on the occasion of the 25th Dresden Film Festival in the independent film evening "Picnic at the edge of the zone" in the Schauburg cinema in Dresden .

Since 1992 he has been a freelance painter and lecturer. HG Griese has been working on his artistic visions since 2006 and increasingly turns to figurative painting.

Exhibitions took him to Zurich (joint exhibition with AR Penck and Cornelia Schleime ) and Art.fair 21 in Cologne.
