Pat Hollenbeck

Patrick "Pat" Hollenbeck (* 1955 ) is an American ( jazz ) drummer, arranger and composer .

Hollenbeck was a student of Vic Firth . He studied at the Eastman School of Music and then at the New England Conservatory . With a Leonard Bernstein Scholarship , he continued his education in Tanglewood , where he received the Spaulding Prize and the Young Artist Concerto Competition .

Hollenbeck was a percussionist and orchestrator with the Boston Pops Orchestra for 30 years , for which he a. a. orchestrated the grammy nominated Celtic album . He also wrote orchestrations for Clint Eastwood's film Mystic River and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade , as well as for musicians such as Patti Labelle , Gil Shaham , James Taylor , Cyndi Lauper and the Chieftains .

He has also worked as a performing musician with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and has performed and recorded with Leonard Bernstein , Charles Dutoit , Bernard Haitink , Keith Lockhart , Seiji Ozawa and John Williams . He was also a member of George Russell's International Living Time Orchestra , for which he also orchestrated.

Hollenbeck was the winner of the New England Conservatory's Young Artist Concerto Competition and was recognized as an outstanding composer and arranger at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival . He taught jazz at the New England Conservatory of Music and also taught drums at the Boston Conservatory . After a stroke in 2009 he was able to resume his activities as arranger and percussionist; he is also currently President of the Boston Musicians' Association.

The drummer John Hollenbeck is his younger brother.
