H. Maurice Jacquet

Maurice Henri Louis Fernand Jacquet (born March 18, 1886 in Saint-Mandé , † June 29, 1954 in New York City ) was a French composer and conductor.

Jacquet began his musical training under the guidance of the composer Francis Thomé . With the mediation of Emile Vessard , he was accepted at the Paris Conservatory , where he made rapid progress. His teacher as a conductor was Alexandre Luigini . For some time he was chief conductor of the Théâtre de l'Odéon . He had success with songs such as Berceuse amoureuse , Renouveau , A une Amie and Chanson de l'Inconstant and was acclaimed by music critics with the performance of his opera Messaouda at the Théâtre Moncey in Paris . In the 1920s he went on an American tour with his third wife, the harpist Andrée Amalou-Jacquet , which took him to Canada and Cuba, among others. In 1929-30 he brought out two musicals on Broadway and composed some film scores for Hollywood. For his wife he wrote the Cantique à l'ancienne for harp.
