The higher federal teaching and research institute Raumberg-Gumpenstein ( HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein ) is a scientific teaching and research center in Irdning - Raumberg in Austria and an agency of the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Regions and Tourism . Through the merger of teaching and research in 2005 and the establishment of its own bio-institute, Raumberg-Gumpenstein became the center for agriculture and rural areas in Austria.
history
The official hour of birth of the Raumberg-Gumpenstein research location was the formal founding of the Federal Research Institute for Alpine Agriculture in Admont in 1947 - at the former location of the Reich Research Institute for Alpine Agriculture.

Staff and size
The head of research and innovation is Johann Gasteiner. The research center employs around 300 people. On a total area of 187 hectares of agricultural area, 168 hectares of forest, 12 hectares of biotopes and ponds, application and basic research is carried out in the disciplines of livestock research, plant cultivation and cultural landscape, species-appropriate animal husbandry and animal health and organic agriculture.
Research areas
- Farm animal research : In addition to the necessary feed and exercise areas, the Institute for Farm Animal Research has various stables for cattle, sheep and goats at its disposal.
- Crop production and cultural landscape : The Institute for Crop Production and Cultural Landscape deals with all questions relating to crop production, in particular grassland management, in a network with questions of the cultural landscape and rural areas.
- Species-appropriate animal husbandry and animal health : Research and processing of questions of species-appropriate animal husbandry, animal welfare and animal welfare law, the assessment of stable structures, stable facilities and husbandry systems with regard to function, animal welfare and effects on animal health and the well-being of farm animals.
- Organic agriculture and biodiversity of livestock: The Bio-Institut deals with questions about organic grassland and livestock farming, animal health, arable farming and legal issues in organic farming at three organically managed locations. Other focal points are work on the conservation of rare livestock breeds in Austria.
