HDI Global SE is the name under which Talanx AG conducts industrial insurance business in Germany and around the world. The company is active in over 130 countries through subsidiaries and network partners.

history

At the beginning of the 19th century, some entrepreneurs in the iron and steel industry were dissatisfied with their liability insurance. Points of criticism were the contribution levels, bureaucratic processing and limited benefits. That is why they organized an insurance cover tailored to their needs.

In 1903, the liability association of the German iron and steel industry was founded as a mutual insurance association (HDI V. a. G.) in Frankfurt am Main . Initially only companies from this sector were able to take out insurance there, but in the following decades the offer was also extended to companies from other sectors.

From 1907 the HDI V. a. G. also include professional associations and their companies from outside the field as members. In 1919 the company headquarters were relocated from Frankfurt am Main to Hanover . In 1936 he renamed himself “Liability Association of German Industry”; In 1970 it merged with the "Fire Damage Association of Rhenish-Westphalian Mines".

HDI Beteiligungs AG was founded in 1996 to separate the strategic group management and the operative insurance business. The insurance business was spun off into independent companies. To avoid confusion with the HDI brand, HDI Beteiligungs AG is renamed Talanx AG in 1998. Since then, the group management function has been taken over by Talanx. The word Talanx is made up of the terms talent (ancient currency unit) and phalanx (flexible battle setup).

HDI has been a partner in Extremus Insurance , a German specialist insurer for major losses caused by terrorism , since 2002 .

In 2005 the Talanx Group announced its intention to take over the operating companies of the Gerling Group for € 1.4 billion. In April 2006, the Gerling companies were integrated into Talanx AG, divided into a life and a property service holding company.

HDI-Gerling had been active as a brand on the insurance market since 2006, until it was renamed HDI Global SE in 2016.

In September 2012, the brands HDI and HDI-Gerling were combined under the "new old brand" HDI in private and corporate insurance. The companies HDI Direkt Versicherung AG and HDI-Gerling Firmen und Privat Versicherung AG now operate under the name HDI Versicherung AG. In the international area, the company also operates under the HDI brand. The industrial business was managed by HDI-Gerling Industrie Versicherung AG until the turn of the year 2015/16. As part of internationalization, the company form was changed to a European stock corporation in 2015 and the name was changed to HDI-Global SE, which means that the name Gerling no longer appears in Talanx AG's business areas .

Group structure

HDI Global SE is a division of Talanx AG. Together with its subsidiaries (especially HDI Global Specialty SE), HDI Global SE forms the industrial insurance division of Talanx AG. Talanx AG takes on the tasks of a management and financial holding company in the Group, but is not itself active in the insurance business. The largest majority owner of Talanx AG is HDI V. a. G., a mutual insurance company. Talanx AG has been listed on the stock exchange since October 2, 2012. The operational insurance business is carried out by the group companies of the Talanx Group, such as B. the HDI Global SE operated.
