HJ-1

HJ-1 or Huanjing-1 is the name for a series of Chinese earth observation satellites . Above all, they should be used to monitor environmental changes and the climate. At the same time, they serve for the advance warning or early detection of natural disasters . The satellite owners are the Chinese National Environmental Protection Agency and the National Disaster Management.

For HJ-1, three satellites were initially planned, which can be divided into two types with different functionality; later the constellation was to be expanded to eight satellites.

Satellites

  • Huanjing 1A and Huanjing 1B as optical satellites.
  • Huanjing 1C as a radar satellite .

The first two satellites were launched on September 6, 2008 with a rocket of the Langer Marsch 2C type , the third on November 18, 2012 with a rocket of the same type.
