The HJB Verlag & Shop KG is a German small publishing house and book mail order based in Radolfzell .

history

The publishing house was founded in 1992 as Hansjoachim Bernt Verlag in Neuwied , in 1998 the name was changed to HJB Verlag & Shop eK. In January 2001 the publishing house was converted into a limited partnership, the previous owner and publisher's founder Hansjoachim Bernt was appointed managing director. In 2006 the company moved from Neuwied to Radolfzell on Lake Constance.

The activities of the publisher are not limited to publishing activities; in addition to its own publications, the affiliated mail order company also sells the works of other publishers and merchandising articles.

program

The publisher mainly publishes science fiction literature, mainly by German-speaking authors. The first publishing project was reprints of the Perry Rhodan comics, and since 1994 the Ren Dhark series has been published in book form. Other classic German science fiction by authors such as William Voltz , Kurt Brand or Walter Ernsting has also been reissued (" Raumschiff Promet ", "Utopische Klassiker").

Furthermore, the publishing house has been selling exclusively the products of the Swiss Unitall publishing house since 2007 (Unitall is the name of the fictional material from which the spaceship in the Ren Dhark series is made), whose managing director is Hansjoachim Bernt. Press work and all contacts to Unitall are also handled by HJB Verlag & Shop KG.

Many publications of the Unitall publishing house can be assigned to the field of occultism , military SF and the right or right-wing extremist fringes of fantasy. In April 2009, the Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young People indexed several volumes of the "Stahlfront" series of the Unitall publishing house because they glorify and trivialize National Socialism, propagate racial hatred and violate the human dignity of homosexuals. In February of the same year, the publisher had already released the rights to the novels before the threat of indexing, so that they could be freely distributed. Following a lawsuit by Unitall Verlag, the legality of the indexing of the novels was confirmed by the Cologne Administrative Court in October 2011.

In 2012 the publisher announced that it would publish a German edition of the book “Marked for Death” by the controversial Dutch politician Geert Wilders under the label HJB Facts . In January 2013, however, the project was stopped before the book was published after the publisher and author could not agree on an edition that would comply with German law.
