HMS Antelope
Several ships of the British Royal Navy were named HMS Antelope after the antelope .
- The first HMS Antelope was put into service as a galley in 1546 , converted into a sailing ship in 1581, took part in the battle against the Spanish Armada in 1588 and was fundamentally renewed in 1618. She was then considered a third class ship with 34 cannons and was set on fire and sunk by sailors of the parliamentary party during the English Civil War in 1649 near Hellevoetsluis (Holland).
- The second HMS Antelope was a ship of the line with 54 guns, built in 1651 and lost in 1652 by shipwreck near Jutland .
- The third HMS Antelope was a fourth class ship of the line with 48 guns launched in 1653. She experienced numerous missions in the wars with Holland and France. Its final whereabouts cannot be determined, it was last mentioned in the 1690s.
- The fourth HMS Antelope , a fifth class ship of the line with 54 cannons, was launched in 1703.
- The fifth HMS Antelope was also a fifth class ship of the line with 54 cannons, launched in 1741 and sold for scrapping in 1783.
- The sixth HMS Antelope was a 6-gun mail ship. She became known in 1793 through a successful battle with the superior French privateer Atlante , but in 1794 had to remove the flag in front of a French naval association.
- The seventh HMS Antelope , a sloop or brig with 14 guns, was purchased by the Royal Navy in 1783.
- The eighth HMS Antelope was a fifth class ship of the line with 50 guns, launched in 1802 and in service until around 1840.
- The ninth HMS Antelope was a paddle-wheel drive ship with an iron hull that was stationed in the Mediterranean and was put back into service in Malta in 1880 after a phase of decommissioning.
- The tenth HMS Antelope was a torpedo- equipped gunboat . It was launched in 1892 or 1893 and was retired before 1906.
- The eleventh HMS Antelope (H36) was a destroyer of the A-Class . It was launched in 1929 and scrapped in 1946. During the Second World War she sank u. a. the two German submarines U 41 and U 31 and was involved in the hunt for the Bismarck .
- The twelfth HMS Antelope (F170) was an Amazon- class frigate (Type 21). It was launched in 1972 and sank in 1982 during the Falklands War .
