HMS Bellona

Seven ships of the British Royal Navy were christened Bellona or HMS Bellona .

  • The first Bellona was captured in 1747 as the French privateer Bellone and converted into a sixth rank 30 gun ship , sold in 1749.
  • The second HMS Bellona was a third rank 74-gun ship that was in service from 1760 to 1814. She was the Bellona class lead ship .
  • The third HMS Bellona was a 3-gun ship that ran in 1794 and was scrapped in 1805.
  • The fourth Bellona was the French 28-gun ship Bellone , which was captured in 1806, renamed Blanche in 1809 , and scrapped in 1814.
  • The fifth HMS Bellona was a cruiser launched in 1890 and entered service in August 1894. It served in the Channel Squadron until 1906 .
  • The sixth HMS Bellona was a cruiser in service from 1909 to 1921.
  • The seventh HMS Bellona was a light cruiser launched in 1942, loaned to the Royal New Zealand Navy from 1948 to 1956 , and scrapped in 1959.
