HMS Nightingale
The following warships of the British Royal Navy were named HMS Nightingale , named after the nightingale :
- HMS Nightingale (1651) , small 22-gun warship built under the Commonwealth in 1651.
- HMS Nightingale (1707) ,24-gun frigate captured by the French in 1707.
- HMS Nightingale (1757) , brig or sloop with 20 (1762: 28) cannons, first mentioned in 1757, involved in the attack on Québec in 1759and in the conquest of Martinique in1762.
- HMS Nightingale (1816) , warship that was involved in the 1816 bombardment of Algiers and was shipwrecked in 1829.
- HMS Nightingale (1829) , six gun brig purchased in 1829 and stationed in Falmouth as a mail ship.
- HMS Nightingale (1855) , gunboat that entered service in 1855 and sold in 1867.
- HMS Nightingale (1897) , river gunboat that entered service in 1897 and was temporarilystationedin Nanjing , China . It was sold in 1919.
