HMS Niobe
Four ships of the British Royal Navy were named HMS Niobe after the figure of Niobe from Greek mythology :
- The first HMS Niobe was the French 38-gun frigate Diane , captured in 1800 and scrapped in 1816.
- The second HMS Niobe was a 28-gun frigate launched in 1849 and sold to the Prussian Navy in 1861.
- The third HMS Niobe was an Amazon-class wooden sloop . It was built in 1866 and ran aground off Miquelon in 1874 .
- The fourth HMS Niobe was a Diadem-class armored cruiser launched in 1897. She was handed over to the newly established Royal Canadian Navy in 1910 , used as a depot ship since 1915 and sold for scrapping in 1922.
