The 1960 entered service in HMS Yarmouth (F101) was a frigate of the Rothesay-class (Type 12M modified) of the British Navy .

history

The Yarmouth was laid down on November 29, 1957 by John Brown & Company . It was launched on March 23, 1959 and entered service on March 26, 1960. It was intended for anti-submarine combat.

On July 13, 1965, the Yarmouth collided with the British submarine HMS Tiptoe in front of the Portland Bill . After being repaired, it operated in the Atlantic during the Cold War and took part in the Falklands War in 1982 . She narrowly escaped being sunk by an Exocet marine target missile that had been fired by a Super Étendard of the Argentine Navy Air Force. A second Exocet anti-ship missile fired hit HMS Sheffield , which later sank.

The Yarmouth was decommissioned on April 30, 1986 and sunk on June 30, 1987 by the HMS Manchester during a maneuver.
