The HMS Berwick was a Rothesay-class frigate of the British Navy .

history

The Berwick , like ten Royal Navy ships before her, was named after the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed . It was built by Harland & Wolff for anti-submarine combat and entered service in 1961. The ship took part in the Beira Patrol and brought up the Greek tanker Manuela on April 9, 1966 , who had loaded oil for Rhodesia . In 1967 the ship was equipped with a helicopter landing deck.

In 1977 the Berwick took part with the HMS Plymouth and the HMS Rothesay in the fleet parade for the 25th anniversary of the throne of Elizabeth II .

After she was decommissioned in 1985, the HMS Berwick was sunk on August 18, 1986 as a target ship by a Mk 24 Tigerfish torpedo of the submarine HMS Tireless (S88) .
