Hradiště svatého Hypolita , also Hradiště (German: Pöltenberg) is a village district on the western outskirts of Znojmo in the Czech Republic .

history

Historical coat of arms of Pöltenberg

Due to its strategically favorable location on a mountain spur above the river Dyje , an important fortress of the Great Moravian Empire was located here .

The church of the same name on the Pöltenberg in Znojmo is said to have been founded in the town of St. Pölten (Lower Austria) of the same name , as missionary activities originating in Lower Austria are suspected, especially in the Great Moravian Empire.

Later, as an important commander of the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, the Propstei St. Hypolit existed here , which went out during the Hussite Wars . Even today the church of St. Hippolyt is a contemporary witness of local history.

From 1850 Pöltenberg formed a municipality in the district administration of Znaim. The place has belonged to the district town of Znojmo (Znojmo) since around 1918 as the district of Hradiště .
