Josef Aicher (born March 16, 1882 in Vienna ; † September 16, 1973 there ) was an Austrian architect and builder.

Life

Josef Aicher graduated from the foremen's school of the Vienna State Trade School, which he graduated in 1907. In 1909 he received the master builder license. In 1913 he founded his own construction office, which Alfred Gerger joined in 1921 . The company operated successfully until 1933, including for the municipality of Vienna. Nothing is known about Aicher's further activities after 1933. Aicher, who died at the age of 91, was buried in the Neustift cemetery .

meaning

Josef Aicher was primarily a master builder and only planned a few buildings himself. The way these are designed, in addition to the technical know-how, he had considerable artistic potential. The most interesting is the post office in Buchengasse , which we created together with Gerger . This building incorporated classical elements in a modified form into the modern design. The most eye-catching feature is the expressionistic corner solution with the tower-like structure drawn up over the roof. Inside, the post office had a modern automatic letter sorting system.
