Physconia distorta ( synonym : Physconia pulverulenta ) is a moderately common leaf lichen species in Central Europethat colonizes tree bark.

description

The more or less rosette camp of the morphologically very variable Physconia distorta reaches 5 cm (rarely up to 10 cm) in diameter. The color of the thallus ranges from gray to brown (sometimes turning reddish), typically it is spotty - especially at the ends of the 1 to 2 mm narrow thallus lobes. The underside has black rhizines that are frayed at right angles. While isidia or sorale are absent, apothecia (diameter 2 to 5 mm) are often present in large numbers, their dark disc is whitish to bluish frosted.

distribution

The distribution area of Physconia distorta extends from northern to southern Europe. It is particularly found on the nutrient-rich, dust-impregnated bark of free-standing deciduous trees (e.g. ash, poplar) in areas rich in lime; it is absent when the air is heavily polluted (mainly by acidic substances).
