HOPE / HOSBO

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

HOPE ( HO chleistungs- PE netrator) and HOSBO ( HO chleistungs- S preng- BO mbe) are two glide missiles that are being developed by Diehl BGT Defense in cooperation with the Federal Office for Defense Technology and Procurement for the Bundeswehr. The target spectrum primarily comprises surface and underground land targets.

history

Both projects were started in parallel at the end of the 1990s and are currently in the demonstration phase. On September 22nd, 2008, when a HoPe was dropped in a tornado over the northern Swedish test site Vidsel, the weapon was tested for the first time in flight. The aim is to complete the development work by 2010. Hardly any information was published by the manufacturer after 2012. A follow-up project is known under the name “Pilum”.

The missile

The requirements of the Air Force made the development of two different glide missiles necessary.

HOPE

HOPE at the ILA2006

HOPE is a glide bomb specially designed to combat hard targets above and below ground. To do this, it has a high-performance penetrator whose active power should be superior to all previous systems, according to the manufacturer. Particular attention was paid to combating terrorist shelters in caves and tunnels. The non-propelled gliding missile is released at high subsonic speed and, thanks to its aerodynamic design, has a range of up to 160 kilometers (depending on the altitude and speed of the aircraft) with high maneuverability. The requirements for accuracy , all-weather capability and resistance to interference should be met by means of GPS / INS steering, electro-optical sensors and specially coordinated target approaches.

HOSBO

HOSBO at the ILA2006

HOSBO is a glide bomb that can be equipped with different warheads. The possibilities range from classic warheads to so-called non-lethal weapons (for example explosive splinters , lightning bangs or high-power microwaves). The flight characteristics and requirements as well as the configurations of the sensors are identical to those of the HOPE glide bomb.

HOPE and HOSBO were presented to the public for the first time at ILA 2004.

Pilum

At the aviation exhibition in Le Bourget 2011, Diehl presented a further development of the HOPE / HOSBO missile. With the help of the Israeli arms company Rafael , the missile is to be equipped with a new seeker head based on Spice . The range should be 100 kilometers.
