The HSC was best known for its three-year participation in the 2nd handball league (2004–2006), two of which under the name HSG Niestetal-Staufenberg .

history

The club was founded on July 16, 1949 under the name Handball-Sport-Club Landwehrhagen eV and was the first handball team in the Staufenberg region. Shortly afterwards, the women formed the first women's handball team in Landwehrhagen. They played on a large field, halls were rare in the post-war period. After the handball section, sports groups in gymnastics and athletics were established. At the beginning of the 50s of the 20th century a theater group was established at the HSC. Table tennis has been played regularly at the HSC since 1951.

The old sports hall at the elementary school in Landwehrhagen was the home of the club until 1990, then more space was created for handball with the construction of the Staufenberghalle . That this came about was thanks to men like Heinrich Reiners, who, supported by his fellow board members, committed himself to the construction of the hall and was the “engine” of the association for a long time.

The HSC not only offered space to athletes, it was also home to maritime singing. In 1983 the Shanty Choir was founded , which now continues to exist as an independent association. Winter sports also took place at the HSC, and in the snowy year of 1986, skiing fans founded a division. Carnival events were held for five years.

The founders were Karl Sakowski, Willi Wassermann, Theo Menger, Helmut Richter, Karl Aschoff, Willi Becker, Ede Kilian, Waltraud Werner, Hilde Richter, Hedweg Aschoff, Irene Menger, Ursel Völker, Gisela Wüstefeld, Frieda Becker, Elsa Dümer, Irmgard Kiel , Vera Koffmane and Irmgard Wassermann.

From the 2nd Bundesliga until today

The HSC organized major sporting events in the new hall. In 1993 the table tennis players of the southwest German ranking list were guests in Landwehrhagen. The handball players' cup games against the second division HC Empor Rostock and Dessau-Roßlauer HV were further highlights.

It went up to the 2nd handball Bundesliga , in which the HSC lasted three years, from 2003 to 2006. HSC played for two years in a handball syndicate with TSV Heiligenrode from Niestetal-Heiligenrode as HSG Niestetal-Staufenberg. The greatest success was reaching seventh place in the North season in the 2004/2005 season . The venue for the home games at that time was the sports hall of the Wilhelm Leuschner School in Niestetal-Heiligenrode. After the sporting relegation from the 2nd handball league in 2006, the HSG had to file for bankruptcy, a new start in the regional league was not possible, so you had to start again in the regional league. The syndicate with Niestetal was terminated in 2007 due to a lack of support in the clubs, and the club has been back as HSC Landwehrhagen since then.

Handball and table tennis have remained. The first men's team plays today in the Landesliga Nord (Hessen). To get young people enthusiastic about the sport is still the goal of the newly founded youth game community JSG Niestetal-Staufenberg.

In 2016, the first men's team was withdrawn from the game.
